Working on Speech Sounds (Articulation)
Practice makes perfect! The more your child practices his or her sound, the better they will get at making the sound. In therapy, we first learn to say the sound by itself (isolation). Then, we work on the sound in syllables, words, phrases, sentences, reading, and conversation. If you want to learn more, please visit the speech therapist Heidi Hank's article The Process of Articulation Therapy.
It is important to note that if your child can not make their sound the right way even at the lowest level, they should not practice their sound at home. We want to make sure your child has practice saying their sound the right way.
Free Practice Worksheets
There are free worksheets to work on different sounds. We can work on sounds at the beginning of words (initial) , ends of words (final) , or in the middle of words (medial).
